On 11–14 September, a conference is being held at the University of Graz. It aims to highlight the possibility of understanding translation and interpretation as a historically and politically contextualised activity that can bring about cultural and social change.
Our colleagues from the Global and Digital Literary Studies Lab, whose long-standing research interest is the translation of Czech literature, could not have been absent from such an event. Ondřej Vimr presented a paper on the digital method, which examines whether it is possible to distinguish translations from the originals based on their content. Ondřej’s team is based on an analysis of 1400 Czech books from 1992–2009.
