Have you ever wondered how literary scholars relax when most other people reach for a book, our “working material”, in their moments of relaxation? Well, the same way, actually!
And not only that. Literature is “infiltrating” the way we spend our free time in many different forms – even in the form of the Literary Pub Quiz (many Czech writers have proved that the pub is the ideal environment for the growth of literary fervour…).
The quiz took place on 7 November 2024 and our department was attended by Lucie Halabrínová and Kateřina Zajíčková, who together with other members of the Institute of Czech Literature of the CAS formed the competition team “Jiří Wolker Texas Ranger”. However, the humour quickly passed all those present. Other colleagues of the ICL – Kateřina Bínová and Františka Schormová – with their expert guests prepared some tricky questions for all the contestants.
Let’s see. For example, do you know which writer had a cat named Cliché at home? Can you name from memory the order of the prison facilities in which Ivan Martin Jirous was unjustly held during the totalitarian era? Or which tiny flower is hidden under the title of the almanac Anemonky?
Don’t worry – neither did we. So next year, you can come and test your knowledge in this quiz competition too! The quiz questions are so tricky that everyone has the same chance of (not) succeeding.
Still not feeling sufficiently enticed? Then hopefully the great atmosphere captured in the following photos will finally convince you:
