On behalf of the Institute of Czech Literature of the CAS, Ania Gnot will give the ninth lecture within the project ‘Věda na doma’ of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
The lecture will present the current Czech translations of Olga Tokarczuk’s work (laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2018). It will also focus on the interpretation of the journeys of individual characters in the writer’s novels from Poland to the Czech lands. Together with the protagonists of the books House of Day, House of Night, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, and The Books of Jacob, we will find out why north-eastern Bohemia and Moravia play such an exceptional role in Tokarczuk’s work.
