The Biographical Archive is a collection of documents about individuals involved in Czech literary life. The ICL has been collating this information since the 1960s mainly as part of its lexicographical work. The archive contains textual references, clippings and biographical material (questionnaires, correspondence, etc.). Since 1990, additions have been ongoing and all information is cross-checked using other archives, registries and similarly reliable sources. The archive is the basis for the Czech Literary Biographical Database, which lists brief biographies, pseudonyms, initialisms and areas of work for each person included. The first stage of its digitisation took place between 2004 and 2008 under Ministry of Education Grant Project No. 1N04172. Over the next few years, the database continued to be supplemented, and it was made available online. It was developer further between 2009 and 2011 as part of the Ministry of Education’s INFOZ programme (Project VZ09001).
